Eddie Stockton Residency
April 20-25, 2009
Began dancing at a Brooklyn neighborhood school after discovering his attraction to tap dance. Realizing he was good at all of the techniques offered, he later received his formal training at NYC's High School of Performing Arts, with a little encouragement from his first instructor. Believing that versatility would be an asset to his career he also trained at other studios such as Martha Graham School, Bernice Johnson's, Alvin Ailey, and more. As a junior in high school Eddie joined his first dance company, (NJ)Center Dance Collective. George Faison, Philadanco, Milton Myers, Creative Outlet, Desmond Richardson & Dwight Rhoden, Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines, DC Shakespeare Theatre, Nai-ni Chen Dance Co. are among the many choreographers and companies that he has since worked with. Eddie began teaching and choreographing almost as soon as he began dancing, and for the past eight years he has been teaching Jazz at the Alvin Ailey school. Not forgetting his roots, he also teaches Jazz, Modern, Ballet, and Hip-Hop for the Brooklyn based schools, Purelements and Creative Outlet, as well as in public schools throughout the city. His choreography is not limited to NYC schools and companies. He currently has works in Philadelphia(Danco II), Guadeloupe(Academie de Danse), and France(YAQ'EL), with plans in '09 to visit Aruba(Diana Antoinette Dance School) and Cayenne, French Guiana(ADACLAM). Being not just a one dimensional artist, Eddie is also a part time DJ in NYC's underground club scene, lending his collection of various musical styles, tempos, and infectious rhythms to his classes and choreography. For the past two years Eddie has been a participant on the jury at Guadeloupe's Regional Dance Competition, and has been invited to Florence, Italy in February 2009 to serve on the jury at Expression International Dance Challenge. Eddie is very thrilled to be invited to work with Garner Dance Theatre. |
