Mark Dendy is from Weaverville, North Carolina in the mountains. He graduated from The North Carolina School of the Arts in 1983 and moved to New York City to dance with Martha Graham, Ruby Shang, Pearl Lang, Pooh Kaye and Jane Comfort.
Artistic Director, Mark Dendy Dance, performing internationally and in NYC at The Joyce, Lincoln Center, PS 122, and the American Dance Festival Recipient: Alpert Award, NEA, NYSCA and Jerome Foundation grants. NY Dance and Performance Award, "The Bessie" for sustained career acheivement. BROADWAY: TABOO, and THE PIRATE QUEEN. Off-Broadway: JAQUES BREL IS ALIVE AND WELL AND LIVING IN PARIS (Nominated for Outer Critic Circle, Drama Desk Awards for Best Revival), and Drama League Awards for Lippa's THE WILD PARTY (OBIE Award, Drama Desk Nomination), MIRACLE BROTHERS (Vineyard), Radio City Rockettes (Graciela Danielle). Metropolitan Opera: THE MAGIC FLUTE (Julie Taymor). National Tour: PIPPIN (Goodspeed Musicals). He recently was a guest artist at Oklahoma University and creates a new work for the WASHINTON BALLET in February 08. He is currently working a musical based on the music of MEATLOAF to premiere on London’s West End |
